DAVID KNOTT, industrial designer

Having achieved early accolades as runner up in the Young Designer of the Year, & as a finalist in both the Idea Awards, the prototype development program Launch Pad and the highly sought after Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Award – designer David Knott has been nominated “One to watch” by Inside Out, Australia’s leading consumer interiors magazine, and is a recipient of a number of national and international design awards.

After graduating in Industrial Design with first class honours from the University of Canberra, David’s professional career began with Nielsen Design Associates developing projects ranging from the Telstra rental phone to an air traffic control console.

As a senior designer with Sunbeam Corporation, David honed his experience in high volume Asian manufacturing, designing and developing a range of award winning kitchen and home appliances. His role was to design and engineer each product and oversee the tooling and production development process for each product in China.

He then spent a number of years as Product and Design Manager at KD Furniture - a Sydney based furniture manufacturer designing product ranges for large Australian retailers such as Freedom, Harvey Norman and Domayne.

He is currently Design Director for Jamie Durie Design managing the product, interior and landscape design teams from its Sydney based studio. In collaboration with Jamie he has designed and developed many award winning design ranges working with design-led international brands.

Needing to develop and showcase a growing body of personal work, David established his own design studio in 2000 with the aim of manufacturing and distributing a range of lighting, furniture and product designs. He has worked with many recognised Australasian and international brands.
